Working with Sentara
This summer 13 nursing students from Sentara College of Health Sciences partnered with Sally’s Lambs®. As they each delved into fulfilling their Community Nursing Practicum requirements, the students spent hours researching and developing resources to enhance our outreach to birth moms.
Under the direction of Professor Denise Sevigny and support from Bethany Bomberger, Sally’s Lambs® Director, the students developed a preliminary support group curriculum, an online database of birth mom supports, and combed through existing grant opportunities for potential monies to sustain the outreach. In addition, a number of the students volunteered at our Cherished Event in Chesapeake and collected maternity clothes for local moms in need. On June 22nd, looking fabulous in their Sally’s Lambs® shirts and ties, the student’s culminating class presentation brought to life their hard work and highlighted the often forgotten demographic.
Sally’s Lambs® is so appreciative of the time, energy and heart the Sentara students put into their summer course. They may never know the full impact of their work, but we hope they will know how proud we are to have been a part of their community focused work!
