Pro-Abortion Mainstream Media’s Free Ad Space for Planned Parenthood
The Washington Post’s Caitlin Gibson presented a glowing depiction of the leader of the nation’s leading abortion business, Cecile Richards, without providing context or accuracy. In the opinion piece “The abortion rights movement is bolder than it’s been in years. That’s Cecile Richards’ plan”, we see how easily one could mistake a news article for free ad space for Planned Parenthood.
Gibson lauds Richards for “bringing the passionately debated procedure into the light”. Really? Is Planned Parenthood showing the American public what abortion actually looks like. The Center for Medical Progress did that with journalistic courage and excellence but I don’t recall the Washington Post praising David Daleiden or Sandra Merritt. I’m all for taking this “debate” from the abstract to the tangible, but Richards and her pro-abortion allies do everything they can to destigmatize abortion while refusing to actually show what they daily euphemize.
Richards and her staff were “clapping and crying, to revel in a moment of joy”, Gibson writes, when the Supreme Court ruled that States cannot stop other Gosnells from harming women and children. Whole Women’s Health v. Hellerstedt was Texas’ direct response to the murder convictions of abortionist, Kermit Gosnell. The Grand Jury Report recommended exactly what prolife Texas legislators passed in HB2: “If oversight agencies expect to prevent future Dr. Gosnells, they must find the fortitude to enact and enforce the necessary regulations. Rules must be more than words on paper. We recommend that the Pennsylvania Department of Health plug the hole it has created for abortion clinics. They should be explicitly regulated as ambulatory surgical facilities, so that they are inspected annually and held to the same standards as all other outpatient procedure centers.”
For added clarification, the unconstitutional Roe ruling actually provides States the right to “regulate the abortion procedure to the extent that the regulation reasonably relates to the preservation and protection of maternal health.”
The organization I co-founded, The Radiance Foundation, provided key research in an amicus brief submitted on behalf of HB2, highlighting the racial targeting of a self-policing industry. Richards claims that taxpayers need to pay for minorities’ abortions. How altruistic. Those of my complexion already have the highest abortion rates. In NYC, home of Planned Parenthood, more black babies are aborted than born alive. According to the NY Department of Health 1,100 black babies are aborted for every 1,000 born alive. The black community is the only demographic where this grim reality exists. In Texas, the black abortion rate is 22.7 per 1,000 women (ages 15-44). This is nearly 3 times higher than whites (8.1) and more than twice as high as Hispanics (10.1).There is obviously no lack of access for minorities. How many more black babies should be eliminated by abortion, Ms. Richards?
Her organization already ends the lives of over 320,000 humans each year, generating hundreds of millions in revenue. Don’t let them fool you with that whole “abortion is 3 percent of our services” lie.
Gibson’s article exemplifies mainstream media’s uncritical approach to those who profit immensely from abortion. Richards laments: “Can you imagine if these kinds of restrictions were put on any other kind of health care in America?” Actually, American healthcare is heavily regulated. Intentionally killing human life, though, is not healthcare. That didn’t stop Richards from comparing an unborn human life to cancerous polyps in an interview with Bill Moyers, saying: “If men in this country, before going into their doctor, had to walk through a gauntlet of protestors telling them whether not to get a colonoscopy, or just go down the list.” The womb carries life. The colon carries feces. I realize this may be a difficult differentiation for an abortion mogul.
Of course such a “personal decision” between women and their abortionists needs to, now, be funded publicly. The Hyde Amendment forbids taxpayer funding of abortion, yet it happens all the time. Federal Medicaid dollars are funneled to state Medicaid programs, such as California’s Medi-Cal program, which directly funds abortions. An alarming 93,542 of the state’s annual 200,000+ abortions were funded by taxpayers via Medi-Cal. Nationally, Planned Parenthood already siphons enough–$553.7 million in 2015 alone–from taxpayers. How does an organization that has been accused of defrauding Medicaid in multiple states even get to receive a penny in federal dollars? Let’s not forget that Planned Parenthood repaid a portion of their alleged Medicaid fraud back to Texas and the federal government, amounting to $4.3 million.
Planned Parenthood was corrupt the moment it was born. Nothing will change its DNA. Attacking the Hyde Amendment is in line with the abortion chain’s eugenic roots, playing the role of a god who determines which human lives have value. There have been many precious lives brought into our society through Medicaid, and as the HelloHyde.org campaign shows, each one has irreplaceable intrinsic value.
Mainstream media works overtime to misinform the American public. It’s just hard to believe they’re as brazen as they are with their pro-abortion advocacy. Gibson’s article needed a lot of fact-checking…but that’s too journalistic. Contrary to the Post’s claim, for instance, shilling for Hillary Clinton isn’t the first time Planned Parenthood has “taken sides” before the general election. Cecile Richards spoke, on behalf of Planned Parenthood, at the 2008 Democratic National Convention declaring that she and her daughter would vote for Barack Obama.
Yes. The pro-abortion activists are bolder, because they know they will escape virtually any scrutiny from America’s news media. Planned Parenthood will exploit anything to continue its increasing share of the abortion market. Facts don’t matter. Faux equality and victimhood do.
Thankfully, there is a Prolife Movement that cares and supports mothers and their children (born and unborn) and trusts the public enough to show and tell the truth about abortion.
