Christ Before Color

 In faith, news

Note from the Author: I created this meme and wrote this post on Facebook after weeks of seeing Christian colleagues and friends constantly prefacing their messages with “Dear black people” and “Dear white people” and expressing everything they posted with a broken filter of “race”. It was tragic to see people of God being so easily lured by the world. The breaking point was when a friend and pastor of a megachurch posted an encouragement to listen to a series of online #ShareTheMic conversations led by extremely leftist celebrities/activists/authors whose convos were merely celebrated because of their color: a black woman speaking to a white woman. This pro-life pastor friend highly encouraged her followers to listen to the conversations despite the fact that the first convo was between a Planned Parenthood executive and (former evangelical, pro-LGBTQ) Jen Hatmaker. Also included in the collective was a convo between Planned Parenthood’s new president Alexis McGill Johnson and Senator Elizabeth Warren! If Christians aren’t willing to do the simple work of looking past color to character, if we’re not willing to know before we sow, we invite confusion…not Christ. So, my words below were a response to a combination of things that I felt showed a tragic lack of discernment on the part of Christian leaders. I feel like it’s an important reminder to all Christians to intentionally pursue a Biblical worldview on everything and not to be tricked, as it states in Ephesians 4:14, by “lies so clever they sound like the truth.”

If you’re recommending friends and family listen to the world instead of the Word…redirect.

If you’re marching with a movement that wants to spread “power” based on color…redirect.

If you’re leading a church that has been silent about injustice—in whatever form it takes in and out of the womb…redirect.

If you’re prejudging or discriminating against someone based on the (beautiful) hue of his/her skin…redirect.

If you’re fighting for justice but not allowing unfailing love and truth to lead…redirect.

If you’re bowing to a political agenda that neither wants to forgive nor reconcile…redirect.

If you’re one who thinks statues are the problem and not our culture’s monumental rejection of Biblical statutes…redirect.

If you’re persuaded by a mainstream media that thrives on deceit, division and demagoguery…redirect.

If you’re only listening and not seeking context and clarity…redirect.

If your mourning doesn’t move into loving and transforming…redirect.

Christ. Before. Color.

Christ. Before. Anything.

Galatians 3:28 – There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus.

John 13:34 – So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.

Colossians 3:13 – Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.

At another conservative website, a poster applauded the high abortion rate among black people. This individual wrote that we breed like rabbits and too many of us will turn America into Africa. “Breeding like rabbits” is because of Planned Parenthood not wanting abstinence to be taught to young people. Plus, there’s the abandonment of the Biblical view on sex belonging within marriage. They know full well that birth control fails, (especially when used outside of marriage) therefore, money is to be made from abortions that are the result of contraceptive failure. What that individual wrote reeks of godless moral relativism and had Darwinian overtones. Ken Hampton, a Detroit area pastor often says, “There are two races. One is racing to Heaven. One is racing to hell. Both are thoroughly integrated”.
